About this course

The Level 01 Competency Standard for Automotive Mechanics, developed by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) for the Light Engineering Sector, is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for basic skilled work in automotive servicing. The standard follows a demand-driven, competency-based approach aligned with industry requirements and covers occupational safety, basic mathematics, housekeeping, workplace English, ICT, technical manuals and drawings, automotive tools and major vehicle systems.

The Level 01 Automotive Mechanics Competency Standard provides a structured pathway for developing basic skilled automotive workers in the Light Engineering Sector. Through 360 hours of competency-based learning, trainees develop practical capabilities in automotive tools, major vehicle systems, suspension, cooling, lubricating, starting, fuel and ignition systems, supported by OSH, mathematics, housekeeping, workplace English, ICT and technical drawing competencies.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply occupational safety and health (OSH) practices, identify workplace hazards and risks, respond to emergencies and maintain personal well-being.
  • Perform basic workplace calculations using appropriate mathematical methods and tools.
  • Maintain housekeeping procedures by organizing work areas, tools and equipment and following standardized work processes.
