About this course

The Level-02 Competency Standard for Food and Beverage Service was developed by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) of Bangladesh in association with the Tourism and Hospitality Sector. It aims to certify individuals with essential industry-standard skills and knowledge required to meet qualification requirements and enhance employability in the tourism and hospitality job market.

The Level-02 Food and Beverage Service Competency Standard offers a structured, industry-aligned pathway for individuals seeking to build or certify their skills in the Tourism and Hospitality sector. By prioritizing safety, operational techniques, hygiene, guest satisfaction, and clear communication, this standard ensures workplace readiness and supports career advancement within the industry.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) and hygiene procedures in the workplace.
  • Communicate effectively in English with colleagues and guests.
  • Receive, interpret, and carry out verbal and written workplace instructions while working collaboratively in a team.
  • Provide effective guest service, including greeting guests, identifying needs, handling queries, and addressing complaints.
  • Apply food safety procedures and maintain clean dining environments.
  • Perform opening and closing activities for restaurant operations.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge regarding menus, ingredients, allergens, and service styles.
  • Prepare and lay tables with appropriate cutlery, crockery, and glassware for service.
  • Take orders, set trays/trolleys, serve meals, and clear rooms for in-room dining services.
  • Welcome guests, take/process orders, serve food and drinks, process payments, and close down dining areas.

Key Features and Assessment

Competency-Based Training

Focuses on practical workplace outcomes and what the learner can do, emphasizing performance over learning environment or duration.

Assessment Methods

Competency is evaluated through written tests, direct practical demonstrations, and oral questioning.

Assessment Context

Assessments are conducted in NSDA-accredited assessment centers by NSDA-certified assessors.

Evidence Requirements

Trainees must present authentic, valid, reliable, and consistent evidence satisfying performance criteria across all units of competency.

Resource Requirements

Centers provide access to real or simulated workplace settings, food/beverage service equipment, cutlery, crockery, PPE, and operational documentation.

Level Descriptor – Level 02 (Semi-Skilled Worker)

Knowledge

Basic understanding of underpinning knowledge in a specific work or study area; able to interpret and apply common occupational terms and instructions.

Skills

Skills required to carry out simple tasks, communicate with the team in the workplace, and present/discuss results of work with required clarity.

Responsibility

Work or study under supervision in a structured context with limited scope of manipulation.

Certification

After assessment conducted by certified assessors, certificates will be issued by NSDA.
