The Level 02 Competency Standard for General Caregiving in the Informal Sector, developed by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), is designed to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required for semi-skilled caregiving work. The standard provides a competency-based pathway covering occupational safety, basic IT, caregiving principles, legal and ethical responsibilities, first aid, health screening, activities of daily living, clinical caregiving, nutrition, basic physiotherapy and housekeeping.
The Level 02 General Caregiving Competency Standard provides a structured pathway for developing semi-skilled caregivers in the Informal Sector. Through 360 hours of competency-based learning and 80 hours of workplace attachment, trainees develop practical capabilities in health screening, daily living support, clinical caregiving, nutrition, basic physiotherapy, housekeeping, first aid, OSH and basic IT.
The standard is organized into three main categories of competencies, totalling 360 hours.

The course emphasizes what the learner can demonstrate in accordance with workplace requirements rather than only how or where learning was acquired.
Strong emphasis is placed on hands-on caregiving, health screening, ADLs, clinical care, nutrition, physiotherapy and housekeeping.
The CS provides for 80 hours of Workplace Attachment in addition to the 360 hours of competency-based learning.
Written test, demonstration and oral questioning are specified; portfolio/case study is also included for relevant units.
Competency assessment is to be conducted in an NSDA-accredited assessment centre and by an NSDA certified/nominated assessor, as specified by the relevant unit.
Evidence should be authentic, valid, sufficient, reliable, consistent and recent and meet the requirements of the current Unit of Competency.
Basic understanding of underpinning knowledge in a specific work or study area, with ability to interpret and apply common occupational terms and instructions.
Skills required to carry out simple tasks, communicate with the team in the workplace, and present and discuss results of own work with required clarity.
Work or study under supervision in a structured context with limited scope of manipulation.
After assessment conducted by certified assessors, certificates will be issued by NSDA.
