About this course

The Level 01 Competency Standard for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, developed by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) of Bangladesh, is designed to develop foundational knowledge, skills and attitudes required for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning work in the Light Engineering Sector. The standard is competency-based and aligned with industry requirements.

The Level 01 RAC Competency Standard provides a structured pathway for entry-level RAC workers in the Light Engineering Sector. Through competency-based training and workplace exposure, trainees develop foundational skills in RAC concepts, technical schematic interpretation, tool use, precision measurement, tube processing, electrical and electronic fundamentals, refrigerator and freezer servicing, and compressor maintenance.

Learning Outcomes

  • Perform basic workplace calculations using appropriate mathematical concepts, methods, tools and instruments.
  • Apply Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) practices at the workplace, including identifying hazards and risks, using PPE and responding to emergencies.
  • Work effectively in the Light Engineering Sector by identifying job roles and responsibilities, planning work activities and working with others.
  • Interpret basic concepts of refrigeration and air conditioning, including compressors, condensers, expansion devices, evaporators, accessories, refrigerants and compressor oils.
  • Select and interpret technical schematic diagrams and operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Inspect, use, operate, clean and maintain hand tools and power tools safely.
  • Carry out precision checks and measurements using appropriate measuring and checking instruments.
  • Perform tube processing operations including cutting, flaring, swaging, bending, joining and brazing tubes.
  • Apply electrical and electronic fundamentals, use electrical and electronic devices, make basic circuit connections and maintain related tools and instruments.
  • Service and repair refrigerators and freezers through preparation, troubleshooting, repair and proper storage of tools and equipment.
  • Check, repair and maintain compressors by diagnosing faults, checking products and testing attached products.
