About this course
The Level 03 Competency Standard for Solar Electrical System Installation and Maintenance, developed by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) of Bangladesh with assistance from GIZ, is designed to certify individuals with advanced technical competencies in large-scale on-grid and energy storage systems aligned with industry requirements in the Light Engineering Sector.
The standard is competency-based and focuses strictly on practical performance standards. It establishes a robust, structured pathway for skilled technicians to master commercial, utility-scale and energy storage renewable technologies, ensuring high employability and alignment with Bangladesh's Light Engineering sector needs.
Learning Outcomes
- Conduct site inspections, evaluate structural integrity, identify constraints, and prepare comprehensive site assessment reports for large-scale on-grid and energy storage systems.
- Interpret design drawings, layout diagrams, single line diagrams (SLDs), schematics, and technical specifications for large-scale installations.
- Select, inspect, use, and maintain specialized hand tools and power tools safely during large-scale system deployments.
- Prepare installation sites, assemble components, establish electrical wiring and labeling, and conduct pre-commissioning testing.
- Perform routine maintenance, identify and troubleshoot operational and physical faults, replace faulty parts, and ensure system restoration.

Level Descriptor – Level 03 (Skilled Worker)
Knowledge
Moderately broad knowledge in a specific work or study area, able to perceive ideas and abstract from drawings and designs according to workplace requirements.
Skills
Basic cognitive and practical skills required to use relevant information to carry out tasks and solve routine problems using simple rules and tools, communicating effectively with the team.
Responsibility
Work or study under supervision with considerable autonomy, participating in teams and responsible for group coordination.
Certification
Following successful competency-based assessment by certified/nominated assessors, official certificates are issued by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA).
