About this course

The Level 01 Competency Standard for Welding, developed by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA) of Bangladesh, is designed to certify individuals with foundational welding skills aligned to industry requirements in the Light Engineering Sector.

The course provides a clear, structured pathway for entry-level welders to gain industry-relevant skills, ensuring employability and alignment with Bangladesh's Light Engineering sector needs. It emphasizes safety, practical skills, and workplace readiness, forming the foundation for further skills development and career progression in welding.

Learning Outcomes

  • Identify and use appropriate PPE before starting any welding task.
  • Read and interpret a simple technical drawing to prepare materials for a welding job.
  • Use a measuring tape and vernier caliper to check dimensions before and after welding.
  • Set up and operate basic welding equipment (e.g., SMAW machine) to perform a fillet weld in the 1F position.
  • Clean the work area and tools after completing the task, following housekeeping procedures.

The standard is organized into three main categories of competencies, totalling 360 hours.

Key Features and Assessment

Competency-Based

Focuses on what learners can do, not how or where they learned it.

Assessment Methods

Written tests, demonstrations, oral questioning, and portfolio reviews. Assessments will be conducted by NSDA certified assessors.

Evidence Requirements

Candidates must demonstrate knowledge, skills, and attitudes through authentic, valid, and reliable evidence.

Resource Requirements

Adequate workplace, tools, materials, and documentation must be available for training and assessment.

Level Descriptor – Level 01 (Basic Skilled Worker)

Knowledge

Elementary understanding of underpinning knowledge in welding, able to interpret common occupational terms and instructions.

Skills

Basic skills to carry out simple welding tasks, interpret occupational terms, and present results under supervision.

Responsibility

Work under direct supervision in a structured context with limited responsibilities.

Certification

After assessment conducted by certified assessors, certificates will be issued by NSDA.
